Tuscosed Linctus syrup is primarily used as a cough suppressant to relieve dry, irritating, non-productive coughs that interfere with sleep or daily life.   It is specifically indicated for coughs associated with the common cold, influenza (flu), bronchitis, and allergic conditions like hay fever. 

The medication works through a triple-action formula that typically combines:

• Codeine (an opioid antitussive) to suppress the cough reflex in the brain. 

• Diphenhydramine or Chlorpheniramine (antihistamines) to reduce allergic symptoms like runny nose and sneezing. 

• Ephedrine or Pseudoephedrine (decongestants) to relieve nasal congestion and stuffiness. 

Due to its codeine content, it is a prescription-only controlled medicine with a risk of dependence and sedation, making it suitable only for short-term use under medical supervision.
