Linctus syrup is primarily used for the temporary relief of dry coughs and allergy-related symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, throat irritation, and watery eyes. 

• Dry Cough Suppression: It contains ingredients like dextromethorphan that reduce the activity of the brain's cough center, effectively quieting persistent, non-productive coughs associated with colds, flu, or throat irritants. 

• Allergy Relief: It often includes antihistamines (such as chlorpheniramine) that block histamine effects to alleviate allergic reactions, including nasal congestion and itching. 

• Symptom Management: Specific formulations (like Linctus DX or Junior) may also include decongestants to relieve nasal stuffiness and soothe airway irritation. 

Note that linctus syrups are generally not recommended for wet or productive coughs (coughs with mucus), as suppressing the cough reflex may prevent the clearance of secretions.
